A German publication reported that members of the NATO alliance have failed in their efforts to provide winter uniforms and military camp equipment for Ukraine.

According to ISNA, the Rashatoudi news site wrote that Kiev recently asked NATO to urgently provide the necessary equipment for the cold weather, including hundreds of thousands of uniforms and other equipment.

According to the report of German publication Spiegel, Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov wrote a letter to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the end of July, in which he asked the military alliance to send to Kiev anti-cold tents for military camps, along with clothing for cold weather for a number of provide 200 thousand soldiers. He stressed that these uniforms and equipment should be delivered as soon as possible.

Several NATO member countries have been searching their warehouses for these necessary items since the request was made by Kiev. This coalition confirmed to the Der Spiegel magazine that it has contacted the member countries regarding this issue.

According to the reports cited by Spiegel, so far the United States and Canada, as well as Sweden and Finland, which have not yet joined this military alliance, have promised to give a part of the items that cover up to 50% of Ukraine’s demands.

Military officials from several NATO member states argue that, however, the bulk of their countries’ stockpiles remain reserved for their national armies, SPIEGEL wrote.

According to reports, NATO has proposed to replace the uniforms and equipment delivered to Kiev by member states of the alliance by using a NATO-owned fund worth $40 million.

Spiegel wrote: According to reports, Germany is also planning to join these efforts while it has recently struggled to equip its forces with the necessary equipment. German Defense Minister Christian Lambrecht said Berlin could make a “significant contribution” to Ukraine’s defense capacity ahead of winter by sending winter clothing and military camp equipment.

According to SPIEGEL, the German military is “relatively critical” of the idea of delivering its equipment to Ukraine. Lambrecht himself had already announced many times that the German armed forces, known as the Bundeswehr, were on the verge of reaching the red line of the weapons they had to provide.
