February 5, 2014 – A day before the 29 snowboarders appeared in the qualifying round of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Shaun White announced that he would not participate in the tournament and therefore attracted media attention. White, one of the top contenders for the 2014 Winter Olympics, decided not to compete after arguing with his teammates and choosing a new “scary” season.
Two snowboarders, Torstein Horgmo and Marika Enne, who were training in the new course, were injured. As the remaining three American snowboards failed to qualify for the event, there was no US representative in the competition.
