Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Super Smash Bros, has created his own YouTube channel, Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games, to talk about video games.
Masahiro Sakurai is the latest well-known person in the video game industry to decide to open his own YouTube channel. He, who is the creator of the Super Smash Bros series, says in the channel introduction video that he is not going to stream the game. Instead, he will talk about topics such as game development and what makes a game interesting.
“I’m usually asked to give talks at game schools, and while I think it’s a good idea, such talks will reach a limited audience,” says Sakurai. “I’ve also found that while attending developer conferences like GDC or CEDEC are good for technical concepts, they’re not always the best forums to talk about design theory.”
He added that his videos will be relatively short and will last between 2 and 5 minutes. Also, this channel is Sakurai’s personal project and he will not make money from it. Additionally, videos will be released in both Japanese and English. Regarding content related to Nintendo, Sakurai says that he will share with the audience things like the design and development documents of the Smash Bros games that he wrote. It is natural that he got permission from Nintendo for such work.
He reiterates his goal of creating the Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games channel and hopes to teach viewers how to develop games and inspire others. Also, this channel is available to the public and it doesn’t matter if you are in the game industry or not. He says: “It is hoped that one day this work can increase the number of builders. This will increase the number of interesting games for all of us to play.”
The acclaimed game developer had previously announced that there are currently plans to produce a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does not. But if Nintendo gives the green light to make such a work and offers it to Sakurai, he will think about it.
